Maybe the day is just too perfect.
Maybe you just need to sabotage your good mood.
Or….
Maybe you just want to know what to avoid, so you can continue being a well-adjusted person who knows how to manage yourself.
Here are some excellent techniques on how to make yourself feel like sh*t.
-
Write a to-do list and ignore it.
Leave it in a conspicuous spot, so you see it throughout the day. The more you ignore it, the worse you will feel, because shirking responsibility weighs you down. Choosing to hang out all night, instead of preparing for that big thing you need to do tomorrow, may give you a thrill at first, but you will come home and feel like crap.
-
Ramp up your positive self-talk.
Now is the time that you tell yourself that you deserve a break. Tell yourself that you need some me-time because life is just too much. Life is too much for anyone. We need to be kind to ourselves, and that means that you’re allowed to act like you have no obligations whatsoever. We all need to take a breather every so often. It is okay. You are doing your best. Except you know that you aren’t doing your best, because you know you have been shrugging off your responsibilities. You can be doing so much more, rather than just coasting by on excuses, but keep telling yourself otherwise as you fight to stay positive.
-
Isolate yourself.
It’s tiring trying to pass off this image of you trying your best, when you know you are barely trying. It would be easier to avoid having these stilted conversations with people who care about you and your well-being. Ignore them. Don’t talk to them. Don’t reach out for help. Don’t talk to anyone as you continue to ignore your responsibilities. This will bring you one step closer to depression, and oh-so-closer to feeling crappy.
-
Use Social Media
as the window to the world. Now that you aren’t speaking with anyone, you can keep up with everyone by trolling their photos. Compare your life to their Instagram worthy pix, and feel very crappy that you aren’t in the photos with them, that you’re not traveling to those destinations to capture those perfect landscapes, and then feel very bad that your last post was ages ago, old news, and it received very few hearts/likes/comments.
-
Neglect your health.
Throw off your sleep schedule by staying up really late (hanging out on social media) then wake up really early. Sleep deprivation is a good way to feel bad. While you’re up at 2am, eat junk food. This is a 2-for-1 deal and a fast track to crappy moods. Stop moving your body. Just. Stop. Using. It….Except for your bum. Sit on that – often.
-
Live with clutter.
Let your physical reality reflect your mental state. Pile up the dirty clothes and dishes. Take things out of drawers and cabinets, then don’t put them back. Don’t make your bed. Create an environment where you have to hunt for your keys if you want to leave the house. However, if you are isolating yourself, maybe you don’t need to go anywhere. By now you are feeling very crappy. You may even want to do something about it by digging up that to-do list. You may attempt to get things done. One last crappy piece of advice:
-
Multitask.
Try to do many things simultaneously as you make up for lost time. This ensures that everything gets only half of your focus and is only half-way accomplished, increasing your frustration and crappy feeling. The more you try, the more you feel defeated. This feels like crud.
The list above makes it sound like your crappy mood is caused by your own good self.
Don’t blame yourself. Life IS tough and our to-do lists get so overwhelmingly long. Sometimes, the things that get put on the list are completely out of our control. We may not know how to deal with an ailing parent or a dying friend, or maybe we just don’t know where to start. How do you find a job in a new industry? How do you build a life in a brand new country? So many questions. The list is daunting, so we let the dishes pile up and we let Cheetos replace dinner. It is all understandable.
It is how we cope with the demands of life that either help us or hinder us. We can all slip into patterns where we start to feel more crappy than happy. When you’re ready to pick up and clear away the crap, hopefully you can take healthy action! and ask for help if you need it. ((Big Hugs To You!))
These cookies look like crap, but they taste so good! Which means:
You may feel crappy at this moment, but delicious things are still in you.
